Description

The dovecote at Home Farm, located to the south of the house, dates from the 18th century and was cased in stucco in the early 19th century. It is constructed of red brick with white brick dressings that are visible where the stucco has fallen off. The plinth is faced with York stone slabs, and there are Portland stone sills to the small slot openings and the doorway. The roof is scalloped slate with a flat top, where an octagonal cupola has been removed. This tall, single-storey octagonal dovecote stands in the corner of a field opposite the house and features a 4-centred arched door on the west side. It has string courses and dripmoulds in stucco, along with a wide plastered eaves soffit. A drawing from 1860 in the library at Putteridge Bury shows the dovecote complete with its cupola.
