Description
St Hugh's Cottage is a building that consists of two cottages now combined into one house. It dates from the early 18th century and was Gothicised in the 19th century by the Sowerby estate. The structure is made of red brick with a roughcast front and features a roof covered in shingles with wide plastered eaves soffits.
The building is symmetrical, with four windows facing east and set back on the edge of the green. There are single-storey lean-tos on each end. Inside, there is a central internal chimney and a lobby entrance with a porch. Above the porch, there is a blind recess. The ground floor has paired windows and two blocked doorways at the outer corners. The first floor features regularly spaced windows, which are 2-light cast iron lattice casement windows.
