Description
Ashtree Cottage is a house that was once two separate dwellings, dating from the early and late 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building features a timber frame resting on a brick base, with a rendered exterior and the left gable end cased in brick. It has a steeply pitched thatched roof and consists of five bays with a lobby entry, built in two phases, with three bays on the left being the earlier section. The house is one storey with an attic.
On the ground floor, there are steps leading up to the entrance located to the right of the center, which is covered by a raking hood made of slates. The front facade includes three three-light lattice casement windows with cornices and one two-light casement window to the left of the center, which has replaced an earlier entrance. The roof features five two-light lattice dormers with raking thatched heads. There is a ridge stack behind the entrance with a rebuilt cap and a stack at the left end. The building displays exposed plates and purlins, and the rear has similar casements and dormers.
Inside, the cottage has exposed framing, passing tension braces, jowled posts, and a clasped purlin roof with curved windbraces in the left bay.
