Description
Townsend House is a large house dating from around 1830, located on the east side of Barkway High Street. The house is constructed of white brick with a hipped slate roof. It follows a double-depth plan with three bays. The front elevation is symmetrical, featuring steps leading up to a central entrance. The entrance door is a mix of glazed and fielded panel construction, with a rectangular fanlight above. It is set within a Doric porch with panelled reveals and a soffit. The windows are recessed sash windows with glazing bars, set within gauged brick flat arches. The first floor slightly projects from the ground floor. A moulded soffit runs along the eaves. The property has four end stacks, each with paired shafts. A short hipped wing extends to the rear left. A 20th-century garage addition is located to the left. The interior has not been inspected.
