Description

Turnpike Cottage is a house, originally comprising two dwellings, dating from the early 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. It is timber-framed and has been panelled and rendered. The roof is steeply pitched and thatched. The building has four bays, arranged over two storeys. The ground floor features a high brick plinth, with an entrance situated between the two right-hand bays. This entrance has a panelled door accessed by steps, framed by an architrave with bracketed hood. Four sixteen-pane sash windows are present on the ground floor, set in flush frame surrounds with hoodboards. The first floor has four eight-pane sashes, also in flush moulded frames. A central axial ridge stack has been rebuilt in white brick. The right-hand gable end is weatherboarded with exposed plates and purlins. The left-hand gable end is weatherboarded over a rendered ground floor. A catslide roof extends over a lean-to outshut to the rear right and a central lean-to. Further lean-to additions extend to the rear. The interior has not been inspected.
