Description

This house, known as The Retreat, dates to approximately 1800, with later 19th and 20th century additions. It is constructed of whitewashed and rendered brick, with a tiled roof. The house has three bays and two storeys, plus an attic. A plinth runs along the base. The central entrance features a six-panelled door with a diamond-patterned fanlight above, set within a reeded architrave. Glazing bar sash windows are fitted with open moulded frames slightly recessed into the wall, each having timber lintels with slightly cambered heads on the ground floor. The eaves overhang, and there are two dormers in the roof, each containing a horizontal sliding sash window with a moulded head. Internal chimney stacks are present, the one on the right being larger. A small section of wall, incorporating earlier brickwork, extends to the left of the front facade. The left gable end has been rendered. A two-storey, late 19th century wing extends to the rear, characterised by a white brick end stack, sash windows, and casements. A lower 20th-century addition is situated adjacent to this wing. Inside, a dogleg staircase features slat balusters and a swept handrail.
