Description
The Aldenham Social Club is a former house that has been converted into a club. The front range dates back to the early 16th century, while the brick front was added in the early 19th century. There are also 20th-century extensions. The building features a timber frame with some exposed sections, a stock brick front, and a tiled roof. Originally, it had a four-bay end hall, which has since been floored throughout, although the hall has been reopened to the roof.
The building is two storeys tall at the front, with a hooded entrance to the left of the central truss. On the ground floor, there are three sash windows: a 12-pane window flanked by a 16-pane window, all with cambered heads. The first floor has three sash windows as well: a 12-pane window above the entrance and two 16-pane windows to the right. The eaves are bracketed and boxed. There is a ridge stack at the right end with an oversailing cap and another stack at the front left behind a lean-to addition.
The left gable end displays an exposed frame with jowled posts supporting a cambered tie beam, along with struts that clasp the purlins. The first floor jetties out and is underbuilt with a bay window, and the gable features bargeboarding. To the right of the front, there is a 20th-century link to an 18th-century red brick former outbuilding, which has doors to the front and a weatherboarded return with a hipped tiled roof. The rear left has rambling 20th-century extensions that are not of special interest. Inside, there are arched braces to the tie beams, which are ceiled above.
