Description
A house dating back to the 15th century, it was extended and given a new interior floor and heating system in the early 17th century. The front was later re-faced in the late 18th or early 19th century, and further alterations were made in the 19th century. The house is timber-framed and has a whitewashed brick casing. It has a tiled roof, incorporating some machine-made tiles. Originally built as a three-bay Wealden house, it features a two-bay hall with a jettied upper chamber to the left, and an extension to its rear left forming an L-shaped plan. The front has two storeys and three windows. A 19th-century gabled porch sits centrally, with a tripartite sash window on either side. The first floor has nine-pane sashes set in reveals, with a two-light casement centrally. A central 17th-century axial stack is located on the front slope of the roof, partially rebuilt in the 19th century and featuring a diagonal shaft with a square base, moulded cornice, and oversailing caps. The steeply pitched roof is half-hipped, with decorative tiles and a 19th-century stack at the right end. A 19th-century bay window has been added to the ground floor on the left end. A 17th-century kitchen wing and stable have been added to the rear, with scattered casements. The two-bay stables are weatherboarded and have a hip roof to the rear and 19th-century stacks. A flint and brick lean-to is located at the rear. The interior was not inspected.
