Description

The barn at the east end of the lower courtyard at Pishiobury Park dates from the 18th century and incorporates older materials. It features a timber frame that is weatherboarded and topped with a steep old red tile roof. The barn consists of five bays and lacks aisles, with a gabled central porch of the same height and a small door opposite. A low brick wall supports the timber cill plate. The northern end has been rebuilt in brick, while the southern and eastern walls have been partially rebuilt in Flemish bond red brick above the cill plates. The posts are unjowled and are re-used floor beams of large section with deep chamfers. Other timbers are also re-used house timbers, likely from parts of the late 16th century house. Curved braces are present only on the tie beams flanking the central bay. There is a modern porch window, and the interior has been fitted out as a hall or games room. It is not an original 16th-century building, as previously suggested, but likely made from timbers of that period associated with the site.
