Description

Garden Cottage, along with the wall to the kitchen garden and the west screen wall to the lower courtyard, is a 18th century former gardener's house located in Pishiobury Park. The building is two storeys tall, constructed of red brick with a steep hipped roof. There is a 19th century extension at the rear, also in red brick and tile. The south front faces into the garden and features three sash windows with 6/6 panes, a parapet, and a central door, all adorned with fine rubbed brick flat arches.

On the eastern end, there is a single storey lean-to section that includes a wide, heavy framed door leading to the garden and a mullioned window for storage. Extending from the southwest corner of the Garden House is a late 16th century high red brick wall with flat buttresses and a thickened base on the garden side, running approximately 100 yards northwest. At the end of this wall, there is a fine 18th century wrought iron spiked barrier that overhangs a waterway, enclosing the south side of the kitchen garden.

From the southeast corner of the Garden House, a tall 18th century red brick wall with broad external pilasters encloses the southwest side of the kitchen garden. This wall features tumbled brickwork and brick on edge coping at the top. Additionally, a lower screen wall, made of similar brickwork, runs from the 16th century wall to the southwest corner of the 16th century stable block, closing off the west side of the lower courtyard. This wall includes a wide gateway flanked by fine 18th century red brick gate piers, showcasing bold rustication with projecting three-course panels and recesses for the gate, while the tops have been rebuilt with modern ball finials.
