Description
The summer house and pump located on the southeast corner of the walled garden at Pishiobury Park date from the 16th or 17th century. This single-storey building is constructed from old red brick and measures 30 feet square. It features a pyramid-shaped roof made of old red tiles, topped with a square lantern. The brickwork displays irregular bonding.
On the north side, there is a three-centre arched doorway, while the east side has a wide three-centre arched opening that was added in the 19th century, which originally had a glazed screen that is now missing. This opening has been infilled with brick and fitted with double plank doors. A small doorway has been cut through to the walled garden at the south end of the west wall. The eaves project and have a plastered soffit. The square lantern has a pyramid-slate roof and is topped with a metal fleur-de-lis finial. It appears that the roof and lantern were renewed in the 18th or 19th century.
Adjacent to the summer house is a cast iron pump from the 18th or 19th century. The pump features three raised rings on its circular barrel, with a corbelled expansion leading to a fluted chamber. It has an ornamental spout adorned with palmettes where it meets the chamber, a floral bucket spur, and a decorated orifice. There is a bracket for a handle, but the handle itself is missing.
