Description
This is a double barn located at Priorswood Farm, built in the 18th century, with the northern part possibly dating to an earlier period. The barn is constructed with a timber frame and is weatherboarded. It features a steep hipped roof that is tiled at the rear, while the front is clad in corrugated asbestos. There is a red brick sill wall, which is higher in the southern part of the barn.
The structure consists of two three-bay barns built end-to-end, facing east. The northern part has opposed double doors in the middle bay, while the southern part has double doors in the southern end bay and a high pitching door into its northern bay. The roof is supported by clasped purlins with long straight braces extending from unjowled posts to the tie-beams. The wall rails are staggered. Additionally, a granary has been inserted in the northern bay of the northern part, which includes an upper door. The barn is situated within a complex moated site.
