Description

No. 44 and No. 45 Priory Street is a house that has been converted into two dwellings. It dates back to the 16th century, with alterations made in the 17th century and extensions added in the 18th century. The building is timber-framed and has a stucco finish, with a stuccoed brick ground floor that was once jettied. The roof is tiled and features a gable on the left side (No. 45) facing the street, along with a central yellow brick chimney that has an oversailing course and four pots.

The house has two storeys. On the first floor, there are two three-light wooden casement windows with divided glazing on either side, and a central single-light casement. The left gable end has thin modern studding. The ground floor includes one recessed three-light and one two-light wooden casement window, both with divided glazing. There are also recessed plank doors at the extreme left and right.

At the right side behind No. 44, there is an 18th-century extension made of plum red brick in Flemish bond, featuring some overburnt headers. This extension has a brick eaves cornice with projecting headers, an old tiled hipped roof with half-round ridge tiles, and a red brick chimneystack with oversailing courses and three pots. Internally, the timber framing is visible. No. 45 appears to be a two-bay structure that originally had a jettied front, with a braced tie-beam truss and a pegged collar roof that lacks purlins.
