Description

This is a house, later used as offices, dating to the 17th and 18th centuries. It has undergone alterations in the 19th century and later. The building is timber-framed and has been plastered, with an old tiled roof running parallel to the street. It shares a cruciform shafted chimney stack with the adjacent building at No.3. The house is two storeys high. The first floor has a flush-set sash window with glazing bars. The ground floor features a 19th-century shopfront surround with narrow pilasters having moulded caps, a fascia with cut profiled ends and a cornice. A mid-20th-century half-glazed entrance door and a display window divided by glazing bars into 15 panes have been inserted.

Inside, the front room on the first floor retains simple 18th-century panelling, similar to that found in No.3. It is believed together with No.1 Priory Street, and Nos 1 and 2 Baldock Street, it may have previously formed the site of The Griffin Inn in the mid-17th century.
