Description
The Ware Museum, originally a lodge to the Priory, was built around 1852 by Walter Hitch, a local builder. It is constructed of red-brown stock brick in Flemish bond and features a Welsh slated roof with a brick chimney. The building is single storey and has a projecting canted bay window with a brick spandrel, as well as mullioned wood casement windows that include glazing bars and a low lead-covered hipped roof. The entrance is set back to the right and features a re-set 17th-century studded panelled door beneath a cambered arch. The gable end is adorned with pierced, fretted moulded barge boards. The museum is associated with the adjoining property at No. 87 and serves as a visual stop in views westward along the south side of the High Street. It is included for its group value.
