Description
No. 18 and No. 20 High Street is a block of two houses that dates from the 18th century or earlier. The houses have a timber frame that is roughcast, with weatherboarding on the northern end serving as an apron and at the apex of the gable. They feature a dark pantiled roof with a shared central chimney made of red brick. Originally, the houses were one room deep with a single-storey rear outshut, but the rear has since been raised to two storeys.
The front of the building is symmetrical and two storeys high, with one window for each house on both floors and doors located at the outer corners. The windows are 3/3 flush sash types that are widely spaced apart. The lower windows are positioned above simple early 19th-century doorcases that have moulded architraves, friezes, and flat hoods. No. 18 has an original five-panel flush beaded door on the northern side. Notably, there is unusual combed pargetting over the side door of No. 20. There are modern rear extensions that are not of special interest.
