Description

Dunster House is a house, now used as commercial premises, dating from the late 17th or early 18th century, which was refaced in the early 19th century. The rear wing is timber-framed with roughcast rendering, while the front is faced with grey gault brick. The rear has a steep roof covered in old red tiles, but the front slope has been raised and slated.

The symmetrical east facade is two storeys high and three windows wide. The central window is narrower than the others and is positioned above the front door. The recessed sash windows are topped by segmental gauged brick arches with stone sills. The central window has 6-pane sashes, while the other windows are triple sashes. A 6-panel flush beaded door is set deeply and accessed by three steps and a small landing with railings. The door is framed by pilasters supporting a full entablature, a panelled frieze, and a moulded hood resting on scrolled brackets. The reveals are also panelled. A mid-19th century shop front is located on the left side and features rounded corners, a fascia, a dentilled frieze, and fluted trusses. A side passage has a doorcase similar to the main entrance.
