Description

Ridge House is a house, now also incorporating a shop, dating to the later 17th century, with a significant refurbishment around 1800. It is timber-framed and plastered, with decorative fan pargetting and applied bands around the openings and under the eaves. The building has a stucco plinth and a steep roof covered with old red tiles. The house is arranged in an L-shape, with a stair turret in the angle, and a rear wing. Gable chimneys are positioned along the front range, which faces east.

The symmetrical front elevation, featuring three windows, is characteristic of the 18th century. The upper floor has triple flush sash windows on each side of a narrower sash window with 6/6 glazed panes above the front door. The ground floor has a flush sash window with 8/8 panes to the right of the front door, and a late 19th-century projecting shop front to the left. The shop front has a brick base, a hipped roof, and a glazed door. The main entrance is accessed via three steps and features a six-panelled door with glazed upper panels, set within a moulded doorcase with a full entablature.

The roof structure includes high-set purlins, suggesting a previous intention for attic space.
