Description

The Crown and Falcon Public House is a 16th-century inn that was restored in the 19th century. It features a timber frame covered in roughcast and has a steep red tiled roof. This large, two-storey corner building faces west and has a continuous jetty along the front and south end, supported by a deep moulded bressumer and heavy brackets.

There is a blocked 4-centred arched carriageway through the northern half of the building, with smaller arched doorways leading into each part from the carriageway. The building has a deep plan, likely due to a former rear corridor. It has two large chimneys on the front roof slope with paired diagonal shafts that have been rebuilt.

On the upper floor of the front, there are five flush box sash windows with 6/6 panes, and a hanging signboard on a wrought iron bracket. The ground floor features heavy mullioned and transomed 19th-century casement windows, along with two bar doors that are panelled and half-glazed.

An external chimney is located on the south end beneath the jetty, with a 4-centred doorway and a 3-light transomed window to the right, both of which have hood moulds. Above, there is a small flush sash window in the gable and 18th-century mullioned casement windows on the upper floor at the rear. The building occupies an important corner site in the middle of the village.
