Description
The Haileybury Water Tower, built in 1899 for the New River Company, is located 100 metres east-north-east of the College Arms public house. This tall cylindrical tower is constructed from rivetted iron plates and features a steep conical iron roof, which is topped by a large scrolled finial that supports a fish as a wind-vane. The base of the tower is an elaborate circular building made of yellow brick, with two blue brick chamfered offsets at the plinth and similar deep corbelling at the eavesband beneath a heavy stone moulded coping. On the southeast side, there is a projecting rectangular entrance feature that includes a pilastered round arched doorway with moulded stone imposts and a hood mould. The entrance has three-panel double doors and a radial fanlight above. The tower also features chamfered stone circular windows with cast iron radial frames. It serves as a notable landmark in this area of the heath.
