Description
Hailey Lodge is a house built around 1847 for Peter Cleophas, the College Butler. It is constructed of grey brick and features a stucco door surround and a steep hipped slate roof with bellcast eaves and a plastered soffit. The house has a tall, double-fronted, double-pile plan and faces south. It stands two storeys above a basement and is five windows wide. The symmetrical front has closely spaced recessed sash windows with 6/6 panes, chamfered window openings, and gauged brick flat arches. The ground floor features larger sashes with 2/2 panes. A half-glazed front door is accessed by four steps and is framed by a wider heavy pilastered stucco doorcase with channelled brackets, a full entablature, and a stepped blocking course. At the rear, there is a lower two-storey shallow lean-to servants' wing. This tall square house is a prominent feature at the entrance to Haileybury College.
