Description
The Old School House is a former school that has been converted into a house. It was built in 1845 and is located on the north-west side of High Street in Alton. The building is constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings and features a plain tile roof with shaped tile bands and a brick integral end stack. It is oriented north-west to south-east and has two storeys with a first-floor band. The facade consists of three bays, with a central gabled porch that includes a small fixed light window on the ground floor. Above this, there is a datestone on the first floor with a square panel that contains a heraldic shield. On either side of the porch, there are slim rectangular loop windows above chamfered mullioned windows, which are three lights and contain small-pane fixed light windows in chamfered and rebated surrounds. The right-hand side of the central porch features a Tudor arch door. The Old School House is prominently situated at the south-east corner of the churchyard of the Church of St. Peter.
