Description
The Old Police Station is a house built around 1845, with some later alterations. It is constructed of red brick and features a plain tile roof with shaped tile bands and coped verges, along with brick and ashlar ridge stacks. The building has an L-shaped plan, with the main range aligned north-east to south-west and facing south-east, while the wing is aligned north-west to south-east and projects to the south-east. The structure is one storey and has an attic, with roughly 2:1 bays. There is a projecting gabled wing on the right and a single-storey lean-to bay within the angle between the wing and the main house. The windows are mainly 20th-century casements set in original chamfered surrounds, and there is a central gabled dormer with 2-light chamfered mullioned windows. The door, located to the left of centre, has a cambered arch and a chamfered surround. The Old Police Station is situated in a prominent and elevated position at the head of the High Street, close to the Church of St. Peter and the former National School, and is included for its group value.
