Description

The railings and garden gate at Rose Cottage, located on the London Road in Hertford Heath, date from the early 19th century. They are made of cast iron and feature wrought iron scrolls. The railings are set on a low brick plinth and are flanked by upright spears with heavy moulded spearheads that rise from a continuous moulded cast iron capping. The gateway has broad openwork cast iron standards that are decorated with anthemion and twisted horn motifs. The rounded heads of the standards are linked by a scrolled wrought iron overthrow. The simple gate combines a cast iron frame and spears with wrought iron scrolls. These neo-classical iron railings and gate complement the early 19th-century stucco house.
