Description

The water tower, now disused, was built in 1898 and is constructed of English bond brick. It features a plain-tile pyramid roof with deep boxed eaves and has a square plan in a simplified Romanesque style. The tower stands six storeys high and has a three-window range. The ground floor is slightly battered, and the entrance is marked by double-leaf moulded six-panelled doors and a fanlight, which are deeply recessed within a doorway framed by six simply-moulded brick orders and a hood mould. Above the entrance is a large framed panel with the inscription 'BEDWORTH WATERWORKS 1898' in relief. There are chamfered single-light windows on either side of the door, and a moulded string course runs around the building.

The main body of the tower has each face set back between large corner piers, with a deep splay at both the top and bottom. Full-height narrow round arches contain four storeys of windows, with terracotta panels featuring floriated ornament between each floor. The return sides have blind arches, and there is a moulded string course and Lombard frieze. The top stage is accentuated with large angle shafts and hallow-splayed sills. Each side has four bay arcades with stone shafts, wooden louvres, and a continuous hood mould. The shallow roof rises to a steep pyramidal finial. Inside, there is an iron spiral staircase. The tower is approximately 45 metres high.
