Description
The Old Meeting United Reformed Church is a Nonconformist chapel built in 1726, with alterations or a raising in 1808, both dates incised in the brickwork. The building is constructed of Flemish bond brick, featuring a string course and a brick dentil cornice, along with a rendered plinth. It has a slate hipped roof and a symmetrical two-storey front with a four-window range. The entrance consists of double-leaf six-panelled doors set in simple doorcases with pediments, dated 1975, located in the first and fourth bays. The ground floor includes two segmental-arched windows, while the first floor has round-arched windows, all with margin bars and brick arches. The right return side has three bays with similar windows. The front facing The Grove features similar windows in the first and fourth bays, along with two full-height round-arched windows. The interior is plastered, with a late 19th-century gallery made of polished pine that wraps around three sides, featuring a panelled front with detached shafts and cast iron columns, as well as late 19th-century and 20th-century fittings.
