Description
This is a 17th-century barn located at Church Farm, approximately 10 meters southwest of the Forge. The barn features a timber frame set on a red brick sill and has a steeply pitched roof, which is currently covered with corrugated iron. It is a tall, five-bay aisled barn that faces south and includes a central gabled porch. The structure has heavy jowled posts with expanded ends at the aisle-ties, and it features heavy square section braces that are halved over the aisle tie and housed in the backs of the arcade posts. Long curved braces support the cambered tie-beams. The roof is constructed with clasped purlins and inclined queen-posts, except in the end bays, which have a collar and queen-struts. The arcade plate shows face-halved bladed scarf joints.
