Description
The War Memorial, located in the Memorial Garden next to the churchyard in Ardeley, dates from around 1919 and is possibly designed by F C Eden. It is constructed of stucco with limestone dressings, featuring inscribed Portland stone panels. The base is made of battered knapped flint with red brick banding and quoins, topped by a steep old red tile gabled roof. The memorial is tall and gabled, resembling a wayside shrine and facing north. It includes a half-size standing figure of St George set in a large round-headed niche, which is adorned with a moulded architrave and keystone. The roof features exposed oak cantilevered timbers, and there is an iron cross on the gable.
