Description
The House on the Green, located at the northeast corner of The Green, is a building completed in 1919 by F C Eden for John Howard Carter of The Bury. It is part of a picturesque scheme reminiscent of Blaise Hamlet. The house is constructed of roughcast brick with a black plinth and features a steep half-hipped thatched roof, along with three square red brick chimneys. This large L-shaped house has one and a half storeys and faces west, with a projecting wing at the northern end.
The design includes two eyebrow dormers with small casement windows at the eaves, and flush small-paned casement windows, with higher stair windows located to the left of the door. The entrance features an oak plank door set in a trellis porch with a swept steep roof. To the right of the door, there is a small square bay window topped with an old red tile roof and a weatherboarded base. A painted inscription on the front reads 'JEc/AD 1919/POST LABOREM REQUIES.'
