Description
Number 44 High Road is a former public house that has been converted into a shop and dwelling. It dates from the early to mid 17th century and was extended and altered in the 19th century. The building features a timber frame that has been extended in brick, with a rendered, whitewashed, and weatherboarded exterior. It has a combination of tiled and slate roofing and consists of three bays, with one storey and an attic.
The front of the building has a weatherboarded dado. In the center, there is a catslide roof over a lean-to projection that includes an entrance and two two-light casement windows. The outer bays are fitted with three-light flush frame small pane casements. Above, there are three two-light gabled dormers. The external end stacks, which are from the 18th century, are made of red brick with tiled offsets. The gable ends are partially weatherboarded and partially brick cased. At the rear, there is a continuous lean-to addition with a slate catslide roof, featuring small pane recessed casements, one of which has an entrance under a segmental head. The interior has not been inspected.
