Description

Waterford Lodge is a former lodge to Goldings, now a private dwelling, built between 1871 and 1877 by G. Devey for R.A. Smith. The building is constructed of red brick with brown brick diapering, stone dressings, and part roughcast with sham timber framing, topped with a tiled roof. It is designed in the Domestic Revival Style and consists of one storey and an attic with a T-shaped ridge.

The gable end facing the road features a chamfered four-centred arched opening that leads to an open passage with a vertical panelled four-centred arched door. To the left side of the passage is a larger four-centred arched opening and a slit window inside the passage. On the far right, there is a stone mullioned two-light casement window with inner hollow and outer chamfer mouldings. The first floor has a three-light casement window that projects on corbels beneath a projecting attic, which includes sham framing, tension braces, a moulded collar, and bargeboards, with shaped stone corbels at the ends.

Set back to the left, a ground floor three-light casement window features upper sham framing. The left gable end has a canted stone mullioned bay window on the ground floor, with brackets supporting the sham framing above. The attic contains three lights and bargeboards. There is a stack on the taller lateral ridge and another stack at the rear left with two diagonal shafts. The right return has a small gable towards the front and a tripartite stone mullioned window, coved to the upper framing. Lean-tos are attached towards the rear. The interior has not been inspected.
