Description
Milestone located in the verge outside Goldings Park, dating from around 1760 and reset in 1869. It was erected by the Watton Turnpike Trust and is made of Portland stone. The worn inscription indicates that it is 'XXIII MILES from LONDON'. In 1869, Robert Smith of Goldings diverted and reconstructed the turnpike road from Hertford through Waterford to Watton and Stevenage to avoid Goldings Park.
