Description

This milestone, dating from 1751, was erected for the Watton Turnpike Trust. Made of white freestone, it is a low square pillar approximately half a metre high with a pyramidal head. The front face displays the number '24', indicating the distance to London in miles. On the rear, there is an inscription that reads, 'Repaird by a Voluntary Subscription from the Inhabitants of Ware 1751'.
