Description

The Robin Hood Public House is a building that was originally two dwellings, dating from the late 16th century or early 17th century, with extensions from the 18th century and alterations in the 19th century. It features a timber frame with a brick plinth and a rendered and whitewashed left gable end. The building has a steeply pitched slate roof and was originally designed with two cells, possibly an open hall, which has been extended by two bays to the right. It is one storey with an attic.

The main entrance is a half-glazed door with a small bracketed hood, flanked by three-light small pane horizontal sliding sashes in flush moulded frames. To the right, there is a second entrance and a small tripartite sash window in a flush frame. Above the original entrance, there is a two-light gabled dormer just above the eaves, and to the right, a similar dormer is set higher. The left gable end features a two-light attic casement with a cambered head. There is an external stock brick stack and an internal red brick stack at the right end, along with two gabled dormers on the rear.

Inside, the building has exposed framing, with jowled posts supporting cambered tie beams and curved windbraces. Attached to the left and set back is a one-storey outbuilding, now functioning as a shop, which has a large front window and door, and a hipped tiled roof. To the right of this outbuilding is a knapped flint bay with pantiles, while the inner elevation features red brick, stock brick, and weatherboarding.
