Description
The garden wall located to the south of Westmill House dates back to the 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th century and a raising on the eastern side in the 19th century. It is constructed of red brick, with the eastern side raised using Hitch's patent brick. The wall encloses three sides of the garden, which is situated on a rising slope south of the house. The western side features 17th-century stepped and buttressed design with double-sloped brick cresting. The western half of the southern side is built in 18th-century red brick arranged in regular Flemish bond, while the eastern half of the southern side is made of irregular old red brick with wide joints and an irregular bond. The lower part of the eastern side continues with similar walling, using large Hitch bricks and featuring special coping in the upper part.
