Description
A 17th-century barn is situated at Balls Pond Farm on the south side of Chipperfield Road, Kings Langley. It is a tall, five-bay barn with a timber frame, dark weatherboarding, and a steeply pitched red tile roof. A gabled projecting porch is located in the middle bay, facing east. The barn features jowled posts with long straight braces to cambered tie-beams, angled queen strut trusses without collars, and one butt purlin on each slope, staggered in adjoining bays. Face halved bladed scarf joints are visible where the wallplates meet the posts. It is similar in design to a barn at Langley Lodge Farm to the south.
