Description

Hill Farmhouse is a late 16th-century farmhouse, largely encased in brick in 1772, with 19th-century alterations. The original structure is timber frame on a brick sill, with red brick infill to the rear wing and a red brick casing to the south range. It has a steep roof covered in old red tiles and features a cellar and attic. The house is L-shaped, facing south, with a long rear wing extending to the northwest. A large internal chimney is positioned at the junction of the wings. The south front has four windows, with three-light casements on the first floor. The ground floor features two recessed sash windows, each with eight-over-eight panes, and a cambered arch. A gabled tiled porch with a four-centred arch fronts the building. A straight joint in the brickwork of the front range, to the left of the porch, indicates different phases of construction in the brick casing. Internally, the timber frame displays wide panels, jowled posts, a clasped purlin roof, and curved windbraces.
