Description

Nos. 6, 8, and 10 High Street is a house that has been converted into a workshop and two shops. The rear wing of No. 6 has been turned into a private dwelling, known as 3-4 Una Way. This building dates from the early 17th century and was altered in the 19th century. It features a timber frame on a brick sill, with the frame and brick infill visible on the south and rear (west) sides, but covered by roughcast on other sides. The roof is steep and covered with old red tiles. The north gable is finished in painted brick over a chamfered plinth, with the roof timbers exposed in the gable.

The building is a long, two-storey range facing east, with a projecting shopfront for Nos. 6 and 8 at the northern part, while the southern end, No. 10, has a more domestic facade. The lower, timber-framed, brick-cased rear wing of No. 6 has a weatherboarded west gable. No. 10 features two windows on each floor and a central door, with three flush casements above canted bay windows that are linked under a tiled pentice roof. The south gable has exposed jowled posts, a mid rail, and a weatherboarded gable. Inside, there is a queen-strut clasped-purlin roof and rectangular framing of the walls. An area of wattle and daub panel is exposed at the rear where an outshut has been demolished.
