Description
These barns, located approximately 60 meters northeast of Pond Cross Farm, date back to the 16th century and form an L-shaped group of two inter-connected timber-framed structures. The barn oriented north-south is unaisled and consists of seven bays, featuring a later midstrey that projects with a gable in the third bay from the north. Its exterior is finished with tarred weatherboarding and topped with a gabled corrugated iron roof. The east-west barn is aisled on both sides and has a half-hipped roof at the south end. This barn has four bays and includes off-centre, later cart doors. It also has an exterior of tarred weatherboarding and a corrugated iron roof.
Both barns feature jowled posts, side purlin roofs with raking struts, and arch bracing to the tie beam, wall plates, and within the bay framing. Additionally, both barns have halved and bridled scarf joints.
