Description
This range of barns, located north of the Manor House, dates from the late 17th century to the early 18th century. The barns are timber framed and weatherboarded, topped with corrugated iron roofs. The earliest barn is at the north end and consists of six bays, featuring an aisle on the west side. This barn is curtailed by a later barn at the north end, which runs east-west and has an aisle on the north side along with a central cartway. A barn with five bays was added to the south end, also featuring a west aisle and now includes a through driveway in the second bay from the south end.
The original barn has tie beam trusses with straight braces to jowled posts, queen struts to the collar, and clasped purlins. The rafters have been replaced, and the windbraces have been removed. The barn also has brick and flint sill walls. The cross barn at the north end has a similar construction but lacks a mid wall bressumer and has windbraces only in the central bay. The south continuation barn is also similar but does not have a bressumer. The cart entrance to the north barn features a hipped roof over the aisle.
