Description
CHOLDERTON A338 SU 24 SW (west side) 2/35 Range of barns north of the Manor House 10.1.53 GV II
Range of barns. Late C17-early C18. Timber framed and weatherboarded with corrugated iron roofs. Earliest at north end, 6 bays, with aisle on west side, curtailed by later barn at north end, running east-west with aisle on north and central cartway. Barn of 5 bays added on south end, also with west aisle, and now having through driveway in second bay from south end. Original barn has tie beam trusses with straight braces to jowled posts, queen struts to collar and clasped purlins. Rafters replaced and windbraces removed. Barn has brick and flint sill walls. North end cross barn has similar construction without mid wall bressumer and windbraces to central bay only. South continuation barn also similar without bressumer. Cart entrance to north barn has hipped roof over aisle.
