Description
Two barns stand in a line at Manor Farm. The north barn, constructed in the 17th and 18th centuries, is timber framed and clad in weatherboards, with a corrugated iron and asbestos cement roof. It has seven bays, with a later western aisle added. An original door is located in the third bay, and a pair of cart doors were inserted in the seventh bay. Inside, the barn features tie beam trusses with curved braces to posts, braces to an arcade plate, and raking struts to collars and principals diminished over clasped purlins. An aisle is divided by sleeper walls, and a ridge piece is present. Bridled joints are visible on the plates. The south barn, dating to the 17th century and narrower than the north barn, originally comprised seven bays and is now used as a corn store. Its roof is thatched. It shares a similar construction with the north barn, with jowled posts, vertical queen struts, windbraces to one tier of clasped purlins, and pegged rafters. An aisle is on the east side of bays 4 to 7. The barn has no ridge, and an original cart door is located in bay 4.
