Description
Nos 54 and 55 are two cottages dating from the 17th century. They are timber framed with colourwashed brick noggings and feature a thatched roof. The cottages are single storey with an attic and consist of four bays, with the main stack located in the second bay from the south. The framing has three panels high and includes long curved corner braces. There are part glazed doors in the second and fourth bays, and paned timber windows. Two flush dormers are present in the first and second bays. Inside, there is a spine beam in the main hall of bay 2, which has bar and ogee chamfer stops. The left bay has windbraces in the roof, and there is a stud and panel partition between the bays. The roof of the right section is not visible. The cottages were extensively reworked in early 1987.
