Description
The listed property comprises a pair of cottages located in Cage End, Hatfield Broad Oak. Dating from the 16th century or earlier, the cottages are timber-framed and plastered, featuring old pargetted panels. The east gable has creosoted weatherboarding, and a 20th-century lean-to exists at the rear. The roof is covered in gabled peg tiles, with two stacks positioned behind the ridge line.
The front façade features two dormers with segmental tops, each containing a two-light casement window with small panes. The first floor has two casement windows above a pair of entrance doors, each door adorned with a moulded architrave. A central upper panel displays the date 1720, inscribed in plaster within the panel's corners.
Internally, the cottages reveal jowled posts, first-floor tie beams, and a distinctive storey post with large, curved tension braces within the party wall.
