Description

A pair of cottages located on Barling Road, Barling Magna, dating from the 18th century or possibly earlier, with subsequent alterations and additions. The cottages are timber-framed with plaster render and have a red plain tiled roof, punctuated by two gabled dormers. A central chimney stack is plastered. The cottages are one storey high with attics. They feature a four-window front, with 2-light casement windows containing small panes of glass. Simple surrounds frame doorways centrally located between pairs of windows, each with a gabled porch supported on brackets. A single-storey lean-to extension with a vertically boarded door is on the left side. At one point, the date 1770 was displayed in plaster on the front wall. Number 2 contains a large, restored inglenook fireplace.
