Description

The County Library is a 16th-century building originally used for an unclear purpose. It features a timber-framed and plastered structure with a gabled peg-tile roof and stands two storeys high. The front has 20th-century pargetting and includes a pair of old leaded light casement windows above another similar pair, along with an entrance door. Inside, the timber frame is exposed, revealing a two-bay structure with a former window in each bay on the first floor. The building was originally jettied at the front, supported by jowled posts, and had framing for a chimney stack at the rear, which has since been removed. The gutter is supported on iron stays.
