Description

No. 2 High Street is a house dating from the 18th century or earlier. It is likely timber framed but features a red brick front and west side facing Cage End. The building has two storeys and a steeply pitched gabled slate roof, which includes two gabled dormers and a large central chimney stack. The front and side are made of red brick, accented with some grey headers, and display a moulded brick eaves cornice, a rubbed brick string course, flat window arches, and a high plinth.

The front elevation features three double-hung sash windows with small panes above, two similar windows, and a central early 19th-century doorcase with a pediment, console brackets, and a reeded frieze. The door itself has six panels, with the upper four raised and fielded. On the side elevation, there are two recessed dummy windows above a similar doorcase, which is accompanied by a flight of stone steps and one similar double-hung sash window. Additionally, this side includes a lower two-storey rendered block with a gabled concrete tile roof and two entrance doors.
