Description
The barn located to the southwest of Colville Hall is a 12th-century structure that underwent extensive alterations in the 13th century. It features a timber frame and is weatherboarded, topped with a thatched half-hipped roof. The barn is eight bays long and includes a hipped midstrey on the south side. The original main posts do not have jambs and are set on cill pads, while mid-13th-century posts have upstands. Four posts from the 14th century include jambs. The barn displays passing braces and a reversed assembly at the eaves. The top plates and eaves plates feature splayed and tabled scarfs with undersquinted butts, secured with ten face pegs. The roof was rebuilt in the 17th century, incorporating raking struts and side purlins.
