Description
Colville Hall is an early 16th-century house of timber frame and plaster construction, with red plain tile roofs. The house follows an H-plan and has been extended in later periods. It is two storeys high, with a window arrangement of 2:1:1:1:1. The windows are mostly modern casements, although some original vertical mullion windows remain. The original front door features applied rails and muntins, with a four-centred head and sunk spandrels. A stair tower is incorporated into the north crosswing. There are two original red brick chimney stacks with diagonal shafts, and two further stacks, partially dating to the 20th century, to the south range.
Inside the north wing are three bays with double-cyma mouldings on jowled storey posts and joists, featuring diminished haunches. The roof is of crown post construction. Originally, this wing was jettied at the east end. The hall itself has three bays with double-cyma mouldings on all posts and beams. A single service door remains. The roof in the hall is also crown post and down braced to the tie beam. A roundel of secular stained glass from the 15th century is set into the north wall of the north wing. The site includes a moat.
