Description

Little Bardfield Hall is a manor house with origins dating back to the 16th century or earlier, featuring later alterations and additions, including a Tudor facade added around 1925. The building is timber framed and plastered, with pargetting from the same period. It has two red brick chimney stacks with square attached shafts and presents a symmetrical appearance. The house is two storeys high with attics, featuring a central two-storey and attic porch, flanked by gabled crosswings. There are jetties at the apexes, gables, and first floors, along with left and right gabled dormers on the main range.

The attic has five windows arranged in a 1:1:1:1:1 pattern, while the first floor has a similar arrangement of five windows, and the ground floor features a range of two, three, or four light windows with mullions and transoms, all with square leaded glass. The gable first floors have bowed oriel windows with parget panels underneath. A pargetted band runs below the first-floor windows and along the gables. The porch has old carved brackets, and the building features a nailed three-board door with a central rail and muntins. A rainwater head dated 1634 is also present. To the right of the main house is an attached gabled single-storey range with a bay window, and there are various ranges at the rear. Inside, the heavy exposed timber frame is complemented by many historical features, including a late 16th-century splat staircase and a fireplace dated 1580.
