Description
Milstead Manor is a manor house that dates from the 16th to the 18th century. It features a timber frame with close-studding on a flint plinth, while the central portion is underbuilt with red brick. The left end bay is entirely faced with red brick in header bond, and the roof is plain tiled. The building has two storeys and gables at both ends, with the right gable jettied and the left gable underbuilt with brick. There is a central two-storey brick and timber-framed gabled porch, all adorned with moulded bargeboards and pendants. A stack is located on the left, and there is a clock turret on the right with an ogee-cap.
The fenestration is irregular, featuring segmental oriels on brackets in the left and right gables on the first floor, wood casements in the central porch, and a blocked mullion window to the right. There is a segmental bay window on the left end and three wood casements on the ground floor. The porch contains a plank and stud door with a moulded surround, leading to a chamfered round-headed brick outer doorway. The right return front has a continuous jettied appearance, and there are three timber-framed return wings at the rear.
Inside, the manor has an incorrectly designed open hall. The dining room features 17th-century panelling and a two-stage wood-panelled fire surround with baluster-columns and bead ornament.
